Miriam Wang

B.A. (Violin | Viola)

Miriam began her musical journey with the violin at age seven and soon expanded her interests to the piano. Her undergraduate education at Soochow University School of Music laid a solid foundation for her musical development. Her principal violin teachers included Stephanie Song, who holds a master’s degree from The Juilliard School, and Leechin Siow, an internationally active violinist and graduate of Curtis Institute of Music. Inspired by renowned viola professor Xidi Shen at Shanghai Conservatory of Music, Miriam transitioned to the viola under her guidance.

 

With over 13 years of private teaching experience, Miriam has taught students of all ages and levels in violin, viola, piano, and music theory. Alongside the teaching, she has performed as a violinist with Niagara Symphony Orchestra, North Bay Symphony Orchestra, Suzhou Symphony Orchestra. In 2018, she appeared with Suzhou Symphony Orchestra at National Centre for the Performing Arts in Beijing. Since moving to Canada in 2022 to pursue graduate studies, Miriam earned a place in National Youth Orchestra of Canada, performing across Ontario, Quebec, and Eastern Canada during the 2023 Aurora Tour. In 2024, she was selected as one of only three violists nationwide to join the National Academy Orchestra of Canada, performing in major venues in Hamilton and Parry Sound. She was again accepted into NAO for 2025 and 2026.

 

Miriam is currently based in Toronto, Ontario, working as a teacher, performer, and collaborative pianist.
