York Koo

York received his Bachelor of Fine Arts Honours degree specializing in drumkit performance from York University where he studiedintensively with Barry Romberg in Jazz Performance. Additionally, under the direction of Rick Lazar, York gained extensive knowledge and experience in a large variety of genres such as Brazilian, and Afro-Cuban, in addition to Pop and Rock.

As a teacher, York strives to help students build a strong musical foundation in which they can confidently apply to any genre. He values students’ musical interests, but also inspires them to widen their horizons, helping them develop their own sense of musicality and style.

In addition to teaching, York is actively performing across the GTA and is truly passionate about his music.
