Samuel Chan

B.Mus.Ed (Hons)
(Cello)

Samuel Chan is a registered teacher who graduated from The Education University of Hong Kong with a Bachelor of Education (Honours) in Music. He began learning piano and trombone at an early age and started studying the double bass at the age of six. He studied for eight years with Mr. Lam Ming Cheng, and later pursued advanced training with Harty Tam and Vonghemart Pichan. During his university studies, he further refined his skills in both double bass and cello under Eddie Zong, former Principal Double Bass of the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra.


In 2010, Samuel earned the Associate Diploma (ATCL) in Double Bass Performance from Trinity College London. He also holds ABRSM Grade 8 qualifications in piano, cello, and music theory. Samuel is an experienced orchestral musician who has performed as both a cellist and as Principal Double Bass in various Western and Chinese orchestras since his school years. He has performed in numerous local and international concerts, including with the Hong Kong Youth Chinese Orchestra, Hong Kong Progressive Symphony Orchestra, the EdUHK Jazz Ensemble, and the HKAPA Chinese Orchestra.


In addition to his performing career, Samuel is deeply committed to music education. He teaches double bass, cello, piano, and music theory, and has also led multimedia creation classes. He is actively involved in workshops and demonstrations, sharing his musical insights and inspiring the next generation of young musicians.
